RICHES

23              RICHES

1.     The story goes…

     The old miner had everything that told him there was gold in thy mountain… He had studied, he had been around it all his life… He had the knowledge on how to read the land and recognize the land had gold… It was certain that the mountain surely held the riches of gold in it…

The miner had the tools that told him he could get to it, and remove it as necessary… The old miner had his pick, his shovel, and his dynamite…

·       His knowledge of the gold being there he had…

·       The tools of the trade to get to it and haul it out; he had…

·       But the story goes he stopped 6” inches short from the gold…

Somewhere as he was going, somewhere in his seeing, he saw no more…

He stopped, he buried his pick, his shovel and his dynamite and left…

His claim was picked up and just 6” inches more and gold was discovered…

·       His knowledge was there…

·       His tools were present…

·       The claim and the possession of the mine was his…

It all had to do with time, callouses, aches and pains, frustration and discouragement of what controlled his sight… Time dictated, and the soreness demanded, and then he decided to no longer see the treasure that awaited him…

He left buried within the mine his pick, his shovel and his dynamite and its treasure…

How many bury their pick, their shovel, and their dynamite in life???

How many have like the miner buried their faith, their prayer and their power because the darkness of the mine has dimmed their ability to see???

When fear and doubt overcome his ability to see the gold…

When wisdom is defeated at the choice of seeing pain, rather than the perseverance of seeing their pick strike gold…

Life is like that… Anything worth having is like that… Living for GOD is like that…

To many give up just short of the treasure that would otherwise make it all better and make sense of the why we give our blood, sweat and tears; our life to the cause of Christ…

To Paul, Jesus was worth it all… He was persuaded of the love of Christ would keep him…

To the writer of Hebrews Jesus is a rewarder of them that diligently seek HIM…

To Jude, Jesus was the preserver, the one who could keep you from falling, and present you faultless…

To John, whatsoever is born of GOD overcometh the world…

To Peter, the church; those who are kept by the power of faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time…

We don’t have to stop digging when we know that soon one day we will strike gold…

We don’t have to bury our pick, our shovel, and our dynamite…

We don’t have to give up, give out or give in… There are riches that awaits HIS people…

Soon we will swing our pick for the last time, and the treasures that we know are there will be ours…

Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,    KJV

Don’t cast away your hope, by throwing away what you already know… Don’t bury the tools, and the knowledge that has got you to the end of this thing…

There are riches that HE has for them that are HIS…

Keep digging, keep shoveling, there are riches yet ahead…

Specs

22                 Specs

On January 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after liftoff, killing seven crew members and traumatizing a nation.

Millions of viewers (including many while in school and collage) watched; I was one of them…

Much of the nation watched the launch live more so than ever before because in part Christa McAuliffe, a social studies teacher who was to be the first civilian in space, was on board. She along with:

·        Francis Scobee, commander…

·        Michael Smith, pilot…

·        Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, Judith Resnik... These were the mission specialists…

·        Gregory Jarvis, payload specialist…

The cause of the disaster now no secret, it was traced to an O-ring, a circular gasket that sealed the right rocket booster. This had failed due to the low temperature (31°F) at launch time – a risk that several engineers noted, but that NASA management dismissed…

Over a billion dollars in costs for a flight that lasted 73 seconds, claiming these seven lives due simply due to a failed .90 cent oring…

The design was inadequate to meet the conditions and the stress that was put upon something that all the engineers, and people involved; said was fine…

How could something so small as to an oring derail such a mission such as this? After all it was just an oring…

An oring, something that is the least in terms when it comes to the value of such a huge undertaking…
An oring to such an important mission… This one tragic event would determine that even down to an oring everything is and was important… Everything is valuable… Everything is significant…

I cant help but ask, how many souls have been lost, lives taken when it comes to things much like this oring??? Things small and overlooked that has claimed one’s relationship with GOD… Things that in the grand scheme of things that in the end are deemed of so little value…

 Why sir, if I may ask??? Why build your house on the sand? When within a little more cost and a little more time and with a little more effort... You could haul the materials needed to build your house on a foundation that will stand the test of time… Surely you know its going to rain… Storms always come… The waves of life surely you know will test you sir…

Sir, mam; for whatever for would you be the one to grind at the mill and be the one to be left behind???

Mr. or Mrs. Farmer why would you regard the clouds, the wind to keep you from sowing seed???

What of you sir??? Your rich and increased with goods why the passion and drive for bigger barns???

You Mr. Lawyer??? You have bowed before HIM… You have gotten an audience with the divine… You have set with your very creator… How can you possibly walk away with sorrow??? When you Mr. Lawyer can forever find peace, contentment and resource, that even your money will never be able to buy…

Judas… What, thirty pieces of silver for your savior??? How can that be when you walked with HIM, was with HIM daily as HE healed the sick, cleansed the leper, forgave sin, and conquered devils???
The temperature, the demands came upon the oring and it failed… And the mission was denied…

·        What will deny us our GOD given purpose???

·        What will claim GOD’S promises to us???

·        What will rob us our destination???

·        What will steal away our victory???

·        What will cause us to forfeit our rights as a child of GOD???

·        What strong delusion will we believe???

·        What will cause us to make HIS possibility for us impossible???

·        What will blind us of our vision and bring our mission to defeat???

Whatever it is someday we will see it for what it really was... Something that was as small as an oring… Something that we ourselves deemed as insignificant and of little value and consequence…

FIT

21                Fit

1.   Fit--- (of a thing) of a suitable quality, standard, or type to meet the required purpose:

Fit reads the dictionary. To meet the required purpose.

Found only in Luke’s writing twice, translated as “fit.”

Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.    KJV

To not meet the required purpose… Not suitable… Lacked the quality… Wasn’t up to the standard…

Luke records the word “fit” again with the same meaning…

Luke 14:34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.     KJV

It isn’t fit for the land, and Jesus is recorded of Luke both times and Jesus said of salt that has lost his savour is not only not “fit” for the land, but is not even “fit” for the dunghill. Can’t get anymore useless than that. Jesus went on to say but men cast it out.

How does not being able to “fit” even happen?

I point out that the man that puts his hand to the plough and looks back is not fit…

·       Meaning that the man at one time was “fit.”

·       The man when he first started, he “fit.”

·       When the man first began and laid his hands upon the plough, he “fit.”

When the salt was new. When the salt was fresh. When the salt before time, weather, moisture, and the adverse conditions touched the salt was “fit.”

·       It had a savour.

·       The salt had a taste.

·       The salt also in its beginning was “fit.”

I think of that. What a powerful thought to think that in both, there was a time, a moment where the salt and the man “fit” the purpose. They measured up to the task. They in the beginning were well able to complete the purpose at hand.

But time, condition, the surroundings affected the man and the salt. The man looked back. The salt too, lost its purpose.

How? What is the one thing? What could it have been? Conditions dictated you no longer “fit.”

The thing is, the man didn’t have to look back. And the salt if not exposed to that which caused it to lose its shelf life. We would not even be reading Luke’s writing of Jesus simply saying of the man, “your not fit.” And of the salt, “is not fit.”

How sad to hear two words, “not fit.”

What of us? I ask of myself with certain reservation in myself.

·       What is that thing that can make me look back?

·       What is that element, that certain condition that is adverse to me that can say, “not fit?”

Luke 13:25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.    KJV

Luke again writes and again its Jesus speaking. How does this merit Jesus to say such? Somebody wasn’t “fit.”

Matt 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord , have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.    KJV

Matthew records much the same here as Luke did, and the question is answered again the same even of those who said, Lord, Lord. And yes, even prophesied in HIS name and cast out devils in HIS name. Yes, the wonderful works in HIS name. And to hear the words of the master, depart from me, I never knew you.

How can this be? Somebody wasn’t “fit.”

·       What I could have been I wasn’t.

·       What I should have been I wasn’t.

·       Where I could have gone and should have gone, I didn’t.

The salt had lost his savour. The man looked back. The outside elements, and the conditions determined for the salt and the man. You no longer “fit.”

The preacher said.

Eccl 11:4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.

When this is reaction to the surroundings, the conditions both inward and outward, the wind, the rain, the drought, the cold, the heat of the sun. Somebody decided to look back, the salt lost his savour. Conditions were allowed to determine for us we don’t “fit.”

5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.

6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.    KJV

Mustn’t regard it. Life is life. Some things cannot be stayed. Cancer still happens. The heart can stop in a moment. Loved ones can be taken without warning. Violence still can affect us all. We all could be the innocent bystander. Time and chance happens to all, says the preacher. But I notice this whatever the occurrence is, good or bad. What we must do is control whether we “fit” or “not fit.”

Heb 6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.    KJV

God help me to “fit.” I ask do you “fit?”

THE BIBLE

20                 THE BIBLE

The BIBLE… Common??? Absolutely, I say this not that the BIBLE is treated as common… However, lets face facts by much of todays standards the BIBLE has become exactly that…

The proof if your asking is easy, most Americans have several scattered about the house… Common in that fact… How often is it picked up in a given week??? Does that not make it common as well???

Of course, I am aware of the ability to download it on the computer, the tablet, and today’s cellphone… Its common there in that fact as well, so easy it can be obtained… Gone are the days that few had the BIBLE and where at one time in history it was literally chained to the pulpit…

How about the absence of today in this fact of those living the BIBLE??? Is that not common as well??? When in our world today in the ever-increasing murder rates, rioting, violence, and crime??? What about the breakdown of the family??? The voice on the radio spoke of the opioid use now has become a 500 billion dollar problem in America today… Pornography this is something that America leads in as the world’s leading exporter… What of wars and the talk of war that is so prevalent, we see it, and hear it everywhere…

At this writing, it is said that Iran is now in route to place their war ships off the coast of Mexico, with some South American countries as well even with the possibility of being given safe harbor… That is very close to us…

This should bring to our attention the word of GOD… The BIBLE has become way to common in this present generation…

When the BIBLE can make such boasts throughout history…

·       Over 40 authors of 66 books of the bible… Thirty-nine OT books 27 NT books… A 1500 year span in its recording… 5,000 NT manuscripts found of the NT translations…

·       The NT boasting 5,000 manuscript copies which were being produced no later than 50 years after the NT was written…  No other can say it of another book… The word of GOD is TRUE…

Prophecies of the old testament that foretell of Jesus…

·       Biblical scholar J. Barton Payne cited 574 Old Testament verses containing messianic prophecies…

Josh Mcdowell points out…

·       The Messiah would: reconcile men to God at painful cost to Himself; come from the seed of a woman (Genesis 3:15)…

·       Be a Semite (Genesis 9:26);

·       Descend through Abraham (Genesis 22:18),

·       Isaac (Genesis 21:12) and

·       Jacob (Numbers 24:17)

·       Be from the tribe of Judah (Genesis 49:10);

·       Be a prophet, like Moses (Deuteronomy 18:15),

·       A priest (Psalm 110:4),

·       The judge (Isaiah 33:22) and

·       King (Psalm 2:6);

·       Descend from Jesse's line (Isaiah 11:1) and

·       David's line and be eternal king (2 Samuel 7:13);

·       Be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2)

·       Be given gifts (Psalm 72:10; Isaiah 60:6);

·       Be called Lord (Psalm 110:1);

·       Be announced in advance (Isaiah 40:3);

·       Begin his ministry in Galilee;

·       Heal the blind, deaf, dumb and lame (Isaiah 35:5,6);

·       Teach in parables (Psalm 78:2);

·       Enter the Temple (Malachi 3:1);

·       Enter Jerusalem on a donkey (Zechariah 9:9);

·       Be a stumbling block to the Jews (Psalm 118:22, 8:14);

·       Be a light to the Gentiles (Isaiah 60:3);

·       Be betrayed by a friend (Psalm 41:19) and

·       Sold for 30 pieces of silver, which Judas would throw into the Temple and which would be given for the potter's field (Zechariah 11:12-13);

·       Be struck, causing his disciples to scatter (Zechariah 13:7), which Christ affirmed and repeated (Matthew 26:31);

·       Be falsely accused (Psalm 35:11);

·       Stand silent before His accusers (Isaiah 53:7);

·       Be wounded and bruised for people's sins (Isaiah 53:5),

·       Smitten and spit upon (Isaiah 50:6) and

·       Mocked (Psalm 22:7);

·       Be crucified with thieves and plead for those killing him (Isaiah 53:12);

·       Be thirsty (Psalm 69:21);

·       As flesh would pray God why He had forsaken Him (Psalm 22:1);

·       Be buried in a rich man's tomb (Isaiah 53:9).

·       Darkness would fall over the land (Amos 8:9);

·       His hands, feet (Psalm 22:16) and side (Zechariah 12:10) would be pierced, but none of His bones would be broken (Psalm 34:20);

·       His own people would reject Him (Isaiah 53:3)

·       Be hated without cause (Psalm 69:4);

·       His friends would witness His ordeal from afar (Psalm 38:11); and

·       People would cast lots for his clothing (Psalm 22:18).

McDowell notes that the Old Testament was completed in about 450 B.C., but if you won't accept that, you can verify that the Septuagint (Greek translation) was begun during the reign of Ptolemy Philadelphus (285-246 B.C.), which means the Hebrew version had to have been completed at least 250 years before Christ was born.

He also notes that while it's true that Jesus could have arranged to fulfill some of these prophecies, He could not have orchestrated the place, time and manner of His birth… Jesus would be betrayed, the manner of His death, people's reactions to His crucifixion, the piercings and the burial.

The statistical odds that any man might have fulfilled all eight of those prophecies, let alone 61 (or 574) of them, are 1 in 10 to the 17th power… This in our BIBLE…

Note what the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu said, “there is no Jewish existence without the Bible; it doesn’t exist,” he went on to say, “in my opinion there is also no Jewish future without the Bible…”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu practices what he preaches his son 2010 won 1st Pl. in the national Bible quizzing he went on to win third-place internationally…

It was stated in the news that in Washington an American school when compared on the first day of classes nothing will be said about the Bible, but in Israel and their public-school system… Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met 200 students, urging them to be serious about Bible study…

He told them be all you can be… Doctors, attorneys, physicians all these and more… Yet, hear what Benjamin Netanyahu said in their learning; “first of all learn the Bible… Study the Bible…”

Note this event in Prime Minister Netanyahu life… “On Wednesday afternoon in Baghdad, a few thousand kilometers away from the Prime Minister’s Jerusalem Residence, the world powers known as the  P5+1 — the US, China, Russia, France, Britain and Germany — sat down for much anticipated talks with the Iranians about their nuclear program.

At the same time, just a few hundred meters away from the Prime Minister’s Residence, 100 or so people loudly demonstrated for the rights of Ethiopian immigrants and against discrimination.

And while this and more was going on, for two hours on a mild afternoon, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — with a small black kippa on his head — sat in the covered courtyard of his home with 16 rabbis, academics, Bible scholars, archeologists and linguists, and discussed the meaning of the Book of Ruth… His wife, Sara, sat next to him, and his two sons sat on a bank of chairs set to the side.

“There was something at once heartening and slightly humorous about Netanyahu setting aside precious time in the late afternoon to talk about Biblical figures Tamar, Naomi and Boaz, Ruth and David…

This is what took precedent in the life of Benjamin Netanyahu while Iran loomed so large, and domestic issues beckoned so seriously.

NOW--- OF ALL THINGS THAT BECKONED A WORLD LEADER---THE IMPORTANCE WAS BIBLE STUDY… GOD’S WORD…

I don’t know what it must take for the word of GOD to once again to be so important that like in its past it’s taught and revered again…   At least respected for what the Bible is, “THE WORD OF GOD…”

Consider Israel today that if in their own words that their existence is tied to the Bible as stated… See their past in all their times of war and times of such hatred against them… From the Egyptians, the Philistines, Assyrians, Babylonians, and others… Consider from the New Testament times, Rome, wars of 70 A.D. the destruction of their temple… Beyond even the BIBLE and modern history… In 90 A.D. Then 116 A.D. and again in 135 A.D. On and on we can look and see they never forgot who they were…

Hitler and the Holocaust; 6 million Jews dead and such awful treatment that words can’t even capture the magnitude of such human ugliness, and demonic forces at work… Yet, in our day in the words of Benjamin Netanyahu says they stand today and into the future because of the bible…

Consider the gods of so many of the past…

Numbers 25:03
Moabite regional variation/aspect of Baal.
Luke 11:19
Philistine/Ekronian regional variation/aspect of Baal.
I Kings 18:18
Canaanite gods (“lords” or “masters”), a collective of the different aspects of Baal.
Isiah 46:01
Assyrian/Babylonian/Sumerian god (“lord” or “master”) aspect of Baal.
I Kings 11:07
Moabite war god.
I Samuel 05:02
Philistine/Ekronian/Babylonian god of grain and agriculture.
Acts 19:35
Ephesian moon and nature goddess, (equivalent of the Greeks Artemis).
Acts 14:12
King of the Roman gods.
Acts 14:12
Roman god of communication and travel, and messenger of the gods. Also known as Mercury.
I Kings 11:05 & 07
Ammonite god of fire (also known as Moloch, Molech, Molekh, or Molek).

The question is where are they now??? Nonexistent and yet, the GOD of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel still stands and is worshipped today, even with the misaligned and scattered through history…

The BIBLE is right… The BIBLE is true… The BIBLE is coming to pass as it always has… See it, feel it, know it… Let the times awaken THE BIBLE AGAIN IN ALL OF US…

Israel is studying… Israel is looking for their Messiah… They know who they are their identity is tied to the BIBLE… Look at them today… See them hold to who they are all due to the BIBLE…

Deut 11:18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.

19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:

21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.

22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;    KJV
We as Americans teach our kids to play ball, get them in every sport, every activity we possibly can… We teach them how to catch and throw a ball, play golf, the boys how to hunt and the girls how to cheerlead… We buy them the latest of iphones, and game systems… We pressure them about school, college and career… I just ask, one question with Jesus’ soon return… WHERE IS THE BIBLE IN THE LIVES OF OUR CHILDREN, OUR MARRIAGES, OUR HOMES???

WHERE IS THE BIBLE??? SEE ISRAEL… SEE THEIR DESIRE… THEY GAVE US THE BIBLE, THEY GAVE US JESUS AND SOON THE RAPTURE OF THE CHURCH… WHERE IS YOUR BIBLE???

Ps 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.     KJV
