Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving 2020. It would be a disservice to look at this year and even with all that is gone on and at this very moment and not find something to be thankful for.

Thanksgiving a time of sharing and caring. Thanksgiving for our GOD, our family, friends and the many blessings we have. I know we cannot but help look at the adversity of what we see today. To even find the words to describe the time of trouble we are currently living in. Well, it seems almost too much to keep count of. I ask, has there ever been such a Thanksgiving like this one? The demands of social distancing. In certain parts of the country we see the mandatory “no more than ten people gathered together…” Just up the road from me if you are caught without a mask it’s a $200.00 fine. The talk has been that there are possible lock downs for weeks. We see the numbers going up with the number of virus infections. And there are many other things that can be said of the ever more increasing of other things that have many stressed, angry, and confused as how we are here.

Yet, the challenge for many is not just having a Thanksgiving with its turkey and dressing and all the fixings, but a challenge of Giving Thanks.

·        Can we be Thankful?

·        Can we give Thanks?

Maybe the more pertinent question is.

·        Will we give Thanks?

Paul left us this word to take care of where we are all at.

1 Thess 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.    KJV

In everything give thanks. That is quite a feat when in contrast of the times we are in. Yet, this is exactly what is to be expected. This is not a suggestion but a commandment of Paul. What we can see is this. The church is to give thanks in every thing. The saints of GOD are to give thanks.

It is worth noting from whom this is coming from. The guy that has been beaten and on more than one occasion. This is coming from a guy that has been cold, naked, shipwrecked, much labor, persecuted, perils of robbers and perils of his own countrymen. On and on we could list this from a guy who has suffered in weakness and in loss. Yet, this same guy gives forth this commandment. IN EVERYTHING GIVE THANKS. Then Paul from this command tells from whence this comes… FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD. Paul here gives no way out. There is no excuse. Paul does away from any reason that could ever be given to not GIVE THANKS. How? FOR THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD.

I could draw from the many blessings that come from being thankful. I could point out the fact of having favor with GOD and with man when having such an attitude of gratitude. I could draw from the fact of just how having a grateful heart is the defeat of stress, sickness, and disease. I could make a strong case that a person who dares to GIVE THANKS in the face of the devil. It is that kind of individual that cannot be defeated by satan himself. But no, I don’t have to. Because Paul already stated the obvious truth. TO GIVE THANKS IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST CONCERNING YOU.

YOU!!! Now that seems to also do a way with any argument of us putting this on our neighbor or anyone else. That this as Paul states and with no wiggle room I might add. THIS IS THE WILL OF GOD IN CHRIST CONCERNING YOU.

SO, IT IS TO YOU AND ME THERE IS NO WAY OUT. TO BE IN THE WILL OF GOD WE MUST GIVE THANKS.

As I asked above. Can we give thanks? Can we be thankful? Well no need to ask when the answer is right in front of us. There is no choice in the matter but as the song says, WHEN I THINK OF THE GOODNESS OF JESUS AND ALL THAT HE HAS DONE FOR ME. Well, I think reader you get the message.

1 Thess 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.    KJV

Bless you. Thank you for reading.

 What is Truth

What is truth? My what a question. Have you ever considered this question or had this thought? It’s a question, that while many may not give thought to it. It is a question that is being answered every day.

Now that is a thought. How can we all be answering that question today? How did we answer that question yesterday? How will I answer that question tomorrow? How you ask? Simple answer. What I give myself to is my truth. I answer that question every day with that which I pursue. Whether its nothing at all. Leisure answers the question of what is truth. Leisure says ease. Leisure says comfort. You may say well that defines leisure. But the question is. How is leisure made to be truth? Because if leisure is pursued that is what we have said, that is what is important to me. Therefore, leisure being made the point of my existence for this or that particular day, I have defined it as what I need or I want therefore it’s not a lie it’s my truth.

I just used leisure as an example. Truth today can be made to be anything. How about money? Money answereth all things, so says Solomon. Money can be defined as one’s truth. One may say, money can be used to pursue a lie. That is true. However, the lie that is pursued. In the eyes of the pursuer the thought is, I need money for whatever reason we define for ourselves. Whether we see it as a need, a want, or simply to possess. Money then is defined as our truth.

Anything and everything can be our truth. Today more so than ever before. Man is defining for himself what is truth. But here is the thing to know. The truth that we have pursued is going to be tested and one day, HE that is the Truth will test it. HE will measure it. He will weigh it and the truth that we all have defined for ourselves will either pass HIS test or it will be found wanting.

The story in the bible where Jesus is brought before Pilate. Pilate the one who had built his life on the strength of the throne. One who gave himself to the strength of man’s law. His truth. Pilate the one who pursued the question with his life. A question that he asked Jesus that day.

38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.    KJV

It is a question that we do not see Jesus answer. Why? Jesus, lets everybody answer for themselves this question. WHAT IS TRUTH? Jesus seems to let man make a choice and define for themselves everyday they live. What is truth?

How will we answer that question today? What is truth? We just may as well ask it this way. What is my truth? Because in a day like today everything is open to just how we want to answer it. The pervading thought is, your truth may not be my truth. My truth may not be your truth.

Know this that which provoked Pilate’s question of Jesus. Jesus gives us the significance and the importance of what is truth.

John 18:37 Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.

Who or what is your truth? It matters, because only those that can hear HIS voice are the ones of the truth. Jesus said Truth was HIS cause. Are you in pursuit of truth or is truth what you have made it?

WHAT IS TO BE THE SINNERS RESPONSE

Its been quite some time since I have published anything on this blog. It has been intentional for two reasons. One being that time as of late as been little and precious. The second reason is to allow the last of my five blogs to marinate with time. I can’t think of anything that I have written that has been I feel so vitally important. Its easy to read something and just go over it and cast it off. My hope is that in the last of these blogs. They have been read and re read over time. And even raised the the thought and prayer of many for revelation in this subject.

I hope that the truth of the word of GOD has impacted the minds of every reader on this last series. “WHERE IS THE SINNER’S PRAYER?” and “WHAT IS THE SINNERS PRAYER?”

WHAT IS TO BE THE SINNER’S RESPONSE???

I am reminded of Paul’s question of such and perhaps much more direct when he asked the church of Galatians.

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?    KJV

It was a question to a church but that were at one time like all of us, were sinners.

The question Paul is asking of the Galatians is what happened to you? Who tricked you? Who has cast a spell upon you that you should not obey the truth?
Galatians you know quite well Jesus Christ is the one crucified for you. You know this. What has happened to you that you would not obey the truth?

Then Paul asks three more questions that tells us what happens when you obey the truth.

Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

There is something that will cause a sinner to be transformed from a sinner to a sinner saved by grace. And this we see with the obedience of the truth. Its easy to see that when the Galatians and all that follow Christ arrive to the knowledge of where the beginning is and what that beginning looks like. That is the knowledge of Jesus Christ leads us all just like the Galatians to obedience by the receiving of the Holy Ghost. Which is HIS Spirit in us.

In the beginning when the Spirit of Christ was poured out. It was the same for the Jews in the beginning. In Acts chapter 2. What was preached? Better yet, who was preached?

Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:      KJV

Hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth. When you hear these words that Peter preached, Jesus of Nazareth, one can easily see where the sinner is to arrive. The exact place where the church of Galatia had arrived and yet in our text had left.

Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

They had left off the Spirit. Now it was perfection by the flesh. I don’t want to go off on a tangent here but this is exactly what we are seeing in the “church world” today. To many churches and yet, no Spirit. To many churches and yet no Jesus Christ in them.

When you obey the Lord Jesus Christ there is but one place you can arrive. Just as Peter preached Jesus. The sinner arrived to the place of this one singular question that matters to us all. A question that we should all ask ourselves. A question that Paul was asking a church that had gotten away from it.

Acts 2:37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?     KJV

If we are concerned about our arrival to salvation. Then should we not ask and pray the question the sinners asked. “What shall we do?”

The answer Peter gave was the answer that the Galatian church had once arrived to but suddenly thought that the power was within themselves to improve upon what only the Holy Ghost can only do.

Just as Peter gave the answer, so too is our answer.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.     KJV

This is where the gospel of Abraham took them. All the families of the earth shall be blessed. This is where the gospel took those of Acts 2. And this is where the gospel took the Galatian church. And this is where your faith is to take you as well.

Obedience to the faith will always bring us to the arriving of HIS SPIRIT IN US. It is Christ in us the hope of glory.

Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.     KJV

Where is the Sinners Prayer (Part 5)

I have been writing in the last several months on this subject: Where is the sinners prayer in the bible?
I have endeavored to keep this in order and have not posted anything else in order to do this. To me this is one of the most misappropriated, misaligned scripture in the bible.

The scripture of where that much of the “believers” have taken this belief for salvation and based it upon this scripture of Romans 10:9-10.

This is perhaps my last post on this, seeing that I have hopefully explained this in enough detail through the scriptures on this particular passage of scripture. Even though I could say more. As it is sometimes I think my posts are to long. I am sure there are those who are agreeing with this. Yet, for perhaps the last time.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.    KJV

See what follows in the next two verses.

Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.    KJV

It matters not in this church age whether your Jew or Greek. The reason is that they are (CONFESSING) or saying the same thing.
* There was one church.
* They were in unity; in agreement to the one thing that held them together.
* They all confessed the same thing.
So we see the church as it was meant to be seen. The church Paul was letting all know to get in the church was the common theme of all saying the same thing.

Except a man be born again of water and spirit. This was Paul agreeing by saying the same thing.

Baptism and receiving the Spirit of GOD, was both Jew and Greek saying the same thing. This can be seen because they had all received the same. (SEE ACTS 2 AND PAUL’S PREACHING TO DISCIPLES OF JOHN IN ACTS 19:1-6) All were saying the same thing because they all received the same Jesus. And all received Christ the same way. So, how could they not BUT SPEAK THE SAME THING?

This is seen in Jesus’ day as to what it looked like to believe and to confess Jesus.

John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

This word (CONFESS) is the same word as Romans 10 and nine. Look at this closely. They all believed on him. That is on Jesus. Is that not this day in which we are living? That is the so-called sinners prayer. The word, “come, or have you accepted Jesus as your personal savior?” This is the meaning of how many see this.

Yet, nowhere in the bible do we see this SO-CALLED SINNER’S PRAYER. So, we have this great deception. This great lie. Because much of the “church world” has propagated this error.

Many believed on Jesus. Were they saved? They believed on Jesus. The answer is plain. How could they be? They did not CONFESS HIM. Meaning they did not (SPEAK THE SAME THING.)

To think that they could “BELIEVE ON JESUS” but they “WOULD NOT CONFESS HIM.” Thus we see the difference between believing on JESUS AND CONFESSING HIM. (SAYING THE SAME THING.)

Ask the question. Why? And the word of GOD tells us that as well.

43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.     KJV

Is that not the false teachers and preachers today? I ask, and it is for you dear reader to answer. If we are not saying the same thing as Jesus, as His apostles and their word. Then to what or who are we aligned with? Because to believe a lie is to be damned. To walk in delusion is to be lost. It was deception that removed Adam and Eve from the garden of GOD. Can it be said that the consequences are different? Can you see that to be in disagreement with the word of GOD is to be saying the same thing. Its just not saying the same thing as the one who matters.

Read it this way in replacing (CONFESS WITH BELIEVE.)

John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not (BELIEVE)confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:     KJV

This doesn’t even make any sense. This is because this word (CONFESS) is not to publicly acknowledge but means to (SPEAK THE SAME THING.)

DID THEY BELIEVE ON JESUS? YES.
DID THEY CONFESS HIM? NO.

JOHN OPENS OUR UNDERSTANDING EVEN GREATER…

1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.    KJV

It is here again that we see (CONFESSETH) both times and again its GREEK meaning is not to publicly acknowledge. IT IS TO SAY THE SAME THING. Note the next verse that follows.

1 John 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.  KJV

THEY ARE OF THE WORLD; THEREFORE THEY SPEAK OF THE WORLD. NOTE TO WHERE THEIR UNITY LIES. SEE THE SIGNIFICANCE OF WHO THEY ARE IN AGREEMENT WITH. THE WORLD. THEY ARE CONFESSING. THEY ARE SPEAKING THE SAME THING BUT ONLY WITH THE WORLD.

The question is. Are we speaking the same thing as Jesus has given us to speak? Are we in agreement (SAYING THE SAME THING) as Peter who received the keys to the kingdom? Are we preaching the same message that Phillip preached to the Samaritans of Acts 8 and the Ethiopian of Acts 8?
Phillip asked him. Understand what thou readest? And Phillip preached unto him, Jesus and the word was. See here is water. What doth hinder me from being baptized? The same message repeated, reiterated through out the book of Acts the place of the birth of the church.

CAN WE NOT BUT PREACH, BELIEVE AND CONFESS (SAY THE SAME THING THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN SPOKEN BY THE PROPHETS? THE APOSTLES? JOHN THE BAPTIST? BY JESUS HIMSELF?)
TO CONFESS… TO SAY THE SAME THING… THE SAME THAT WE HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED OF GOD…

To not speak the same thing as the apostles, and Jesus Christ is to be building upon another foundation. This means that this Is to find oneself not saying the SAME THING.

In David Michael Bennett’s book, The Sinners Prayer: Its Origins And Dangers. On page 28 I quote… “It is deeply disturbing that there are probably millions of people in this world who have been assured by well-meaning evangelist that they are saved when, in fact, they are not.” “In other words, there are many who have been told they are going to heaven, when they may still be going to hell. He went on to say and I quote this is the bad fruit of the sinners prayer.”

The lies of humanity in what they are really believing. The smoke and mirrors concept… It’s the light show, the programs, philosophy of men. The lies and deception on a grand scale.

Much of what we are seeing is the failure of being able to duplicate the “book of Acts church,” I find that this is what Paul is saying. THEREFORE MANY HAVE NOT CONFESSED HIM. THERE BE MANY THAT ARE NOT SPEAKING THE SAME THING THAT HIS WORD HAS SPOKEN SO LONG AGO.

THE REMEDY AS GIVEN BY PAUL. THIS IS SAYING THE SAME THING THEY HAVE ALREADY SAID.

Eph 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.    KJV
This concludes my series on this subject. I know its been awhile since I have posted. I hope to get back into it. Please continue to follow and read. And thank you for reading.
BLESSINGS.

What Sinners Prayer (part 4)

 What Sinners Prayer part 4
There is a belief that I have addressed in the last three blogs. My point is for what could possibly be perhaps the greatest lie that has been believed. If you have not read these, please do. This will familiarize you with the subject matter and this present thought.

I have borrowed from the author David Platt and his subject matter before in a much earlier blog that I did some time ago. I go back to it and repeat this again to show that much in the main line of “Christianity” there be some that they themselves have condemned and deny this as GOD’S plan of salvation. Mr. David Platt as author of this I share, took a lot of heat from some for what he wrote. However, he in what he has written I share and with this I agree. If only others would follow his lead and be bold enough to distance themselves and defeat such a lie and fallacy of the devil. He says this in regard, to the “sinner’s prayer.”

In David Platt’s book he has entitled, “Follow Me…” Page 187,188

I quote from him, “a sinners prayer that is often quoted today is not found in Scripture or even in much of church history we never see anyone in Scripture saying, “bow your head, close your eyes, and repeat after me,” followed by a specific, “sinners prayer…”

David Platt went on to say, “I talk with people all the time who are looking for a box to check off in order to be right with God and safe for eternity. But there is no box.”

Mr. Platt also went on to say and I quote, “I have seen the “sinners prayer” used across the contemporary Christian landscape as people pray the prayer without ever counting the cost of following Christ.”

He went on to say that he “experienced this abuse in his own life…” “I can remember lying in my bed at night as a child and later as a teenager, wondering about whether I was really saved, and then thinking, well I just need to pray that prayer again… And really mean it this time, and then I’ll know I’m saved…”

Is it any wonder that he questioned his salvation? The case in point is that this was not based upon scripture. This was not based upon any example left to us by the word of GOD. There was no event, nor experience that he could point to and say. I did that. This happened to me. I got exactly what they got. I share in the apostles’ experience. None of this could David Platt say salvation is mine because of such and such. All he could point to was, an unbiblical man based idea and plan that was minus what any and all the churches in scripture never did, nor experienced. I let Mr. David Platt and his own words speak for himself on this matter.

David Platt; “Men, women, teenagers, children are often told, “if you prayed that prayer,” you can always know that you are saved for all eternity.”

He goes on and speaks more towards this lie of the enemy permeating our world.

“A prayer someone prayed is not the best or even a biblical basis for assurance of salvation, according to Scripture…”

My sentiments exactly. This is why I write this fourth and perhaps final blog on this error and lie.

We started with where man has wrested this idea from. I go back to it again as well. Seeing that this is the place in the scriptures as to where they quote from but do not righty divide the scriptures.

KJV

To look at this word (CONFESS and CONFESSION) When we read this in our English language many see the words as the same meaning as (REPENTANCE or BELIEVING…) However, these words are not interchangeable within our text. So many take John 3:16

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.     KJV

Then we use this word (CONFESS) for the word (BELIEVE) and the result ends up being taken out of context. As I said in a previous blog dealing with this subject. That this text is not a stand alone plan of salvation. Remember this scripture comes after the words of Jesus to Nicodemus that a man must be born again or he cannot see or enter into the kingdom of GOD. And too this scripture is that of John’s gospel which he didn’t record until around 100 A.D. Please note. Paul recorded his own epistles before John recorded his own. Luke recorded his books (Luke and Acts) before John recorded his also. So, the very means of this (Paul’s recording of Romans) being the means of (CONFESS or CONFESSION) being tied to this as “the plan of salvation” is in error. The church was born before John’s recording of his gospel.

The question we must ask is this. What is Paul saying here in our text if he isn’t speaking of REPENTING? Because Paul does say, if you confess with your mouth and believe in thine heart that GOD hath raised the Lord Jesus from the dead thou shalt be saved. Rom. 10:9

CONFESS = homologeō #3670

Thayer Definition: to say the same thing as another, i.e. to agree with, assent.

This has to do with the question of (do you agree, are you, or am I saying the same thing?)

So, this one English word (CONFESS) that the translators used here in our text many today see this as a means for ones salvation. However, from the Greek word, the truer and real meaning of this word here is not to believe but to say the same thing.

Here is another couple of examples.

Luke 12:8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:    KJV

1 Tim 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.    KJV
Both of these instances they each have the same meaning and could be interchanged with one another. All instances here of the one Greek word #3670 homologeō. They each hold the meaning (TO SAY THE SAME THING. AGREE WITH ONE ASSENT.) Note the AGREEMENT OF ONE ANOTHER…

They say the same thing. They agree.

Just ask yourselves.
·        Do I agree with Paul?
·        Do I agree with Peter?
·        Do I agree with the gospel of Jesus Christ?

Here O Israel the Lord our GOD is one Lord. Dt 6:4

Do I agree with the word here?

Paul said this to the Ephesians.

Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;
5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,
6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.    KJV

To agree with this is to (CONFESS) the same thing. It means that I agree with them and the word they preached.

There is another meaning to this word of (CONFESS or CONFESSION…) This meaning is to admit. To publicly acknowledge. To be one that (CONFESSES) to the crime. That is to (publicly acknowledge.) This Greek word is exomologeo # 1843 Yet, another word for our English word (CONFESS).

Exomologeo # 1843: This means to publicly acknowledge or acknowledge openly.
This word is used in James writings.
James 5 :16, "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.  The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
This word (CONFESS) doesn’t mean to speak the same thing, agreement or assent.
This word that James uses here. What the translators have as (CONFESS) for this Greek word. Many
are trying to redefine this word. And if I may add wrongly as well. They are taking the word (CONFESS) from James and mistaking this same word for the (CONFESS) of Romans 10:9. That if I publicly acknowledge my sins. If I publicly confess. But again, this isn’t the word in Romans 10.
Therefore, all of us know that we cannot take a word and say, well it doesn’t mean that anymore, it
means this. So, one cannot take one Greek word that means something totally different and use it here
as a means of making the word apply to where it cannot be applied. We use it as the same English word; but it’s not the same meaning in its original text. So, we must see that it doesn’t work. Its not supposed to work. When we would like to add ice to our water, we don’t say to the waiter could you please bring me some water for my water? Its could you bring me some ice for my water? We are seeing here the religious world making great effort to make this word appear what it’s not. It’s
the devil with deception appearing as an angel of light to color a lie as truth.
Romans 10:8,9 has nothing to do with (TO PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE) BUT HAS EVERY
THING TO DO WITH; IS MY LIFE IN LINE WITH THE GOSPEL OF WHAT THE
APOSTLES HAVE PREACHED?

DOES MY LIFE ALIGN ITSELF WITH THE WORD OF GOD? OR HAVE I RECEIVED A
WORD THAT OVER TIME SATAN AND FALSE PROPHETS, HAS TWISTED AND CAUSED ME TO BE DECEIVED? LET THE WORD PRICK OUR HEART…
2 Thess 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
KJV
2 Cor 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.    KJV
2 Peter 3:15-16 And remember why he is waiting. He is giving us time to get his message of salvation out to others. Our wise and beloved brother Paul has talked about these same things in many of his letters. Some of his comments are not easy to understand, and there are people who are deliberately stupid, and always demand some unusual interpretation-they have twisted his letters around to mean something quite different from what he meant, just as they do the other parts of the Scripture-and the result is disaster for them.     TLB
2 Cor 11:4 You seem so gullible: you believe whatever anyone tells you even if he is preaching about another Jesus than the one we preach, or a different spirit than the Holy Spirit you received, or shows you a different way to be saved. You swallow it all.     TLB

Where is the Sinners Prayer (part 3)

Where is the sinner’s prayer?

I know I have now written two blogs on this subject. If you have read the previous two. The subject matter has been the question. “WHERE IS THE SINNERS PRAYER?” I have stayed with Romans ten. It is this passage of the scriptures that is so often pointed to that ends up being twisted. Its in the last two posts we saw the absence of what must be there in order for Paul to have been speaking of man's deliverance from sin. What we saw missing was that (REPENTANCE nor BAPTISM) wasn't even in Paul's discourse as one’s obedience to the gospel. So, the question we ask is; what was Paul really speaking of?

I write here yet another reason to combat this present day error of Romans 10 being for sinners their response to gain entrance into the kingdom of GOD.

We have looked at what Romans 10 does not say. In context we need to see what it does say. It gives us even more light to the subject at hand when we can objectively read without putting there what the Holy Ghost never intended. With that stated, we have easily seen what wasn't there. But now we need to see what is there within the text.

Let’s read again.

Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Rom 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.       KJV

Again, if taken out of context, it sounds like this would be GOD’S plan for man’s salvation. However, if you read it within the context of the letter to the Romans; it becomes obvious that this passage is not even addressed to sinners, much less being a plan of salvation for the unsaved.

Let's read…

Rom 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Rom 10:2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.

Rom 10:3 For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.

Rom 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.

Rom 10:5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.

Rom 10:6 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)

Rom 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

Rom 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

First and foremost, the passage is specifically about Jews who would not accept the doctrine of Christ. They were so convinced that righteousness could only come by the law that they could not understand righteousness by faith.

Paul the apostle here, reaches back in time to the law of Moses.

(THIS IS IN DEUTERONOMY 30…) This we understand as we read from (verse 5 on down).

Paul is repeating this word for the purpose of showing from the Old Testament that Israel by obeying the 613 laws of Moses. Paul was pointing to their once means to follow GOD. They by doing so, achieved righteousness only by that law. Other words, Israel was by their obedience to the laws of   Moses was declared a righteous people. Paul now here in our text; teaches that through the grace of   GOD to the Jews and Gentiles. They all, who now by faith; their obedience, show and represent the kingdom of GOD.

Please note; that both times, in the Old and New Testaments. The passages are directed at the people who have obeyed the word of GOD and are ALREADY IN THE KINGDOM. This word is not given to the sinner but to those who are already in the faith.

When you go back to the first chapter of Romans. We read who wrote it and to who this was written for.

Rom 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,    KJV

Paul’s introduction; him saying this is my letter.

Rom 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name.

6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:

7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.      KJV

We know who wrote it and we know to whom it was written; the called of Jesus Christ: To all that be in  Rome, beloved of GOD, called to be saints.

Romans 10:8,9 was not written to save the sinner. Paul wrote this to keep the saint saved.

Romans 6:3-5 acknowledges that the subjects of the letter, those to whom the letter was addressed, had ALREADY BEEN BAPTIZED, and reiterates their status in Romans 6:17-18…

Romans 6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.    KJV

The readers of this epistle had already been baptized and had their sins washed away!

So, why would he tell them how to be saved in chapter 10 if they had all obeyed that form of doctrine? You would have to then come to the conclusion that if all of those today who say they got saved by “confessing Christ as their savior.” Then the conclusion to come to would be that there is (2 DIFFERENT METHODS GOD USED TO GIVE SALVATION…)

AND WE KNOW THAT ISNT TRUE. THERE IS ONLY ONE GOSPEL AND ONE FAITH, AND ONE TRUTH, AND ONE WAY TO GOD.

Therefore, when we come to Romans 10:9 -10, it is not the Plan of Salvation for sinners, but there are two things that need to be understood. One the requirements for righteousness to those who are ALREADY SAVED!  And the second thing; as to the saved. What is their purpose? What as believers are, they to do?

So, Paul in delivering this to Jew and Gentile. States to the believers;

“but they have not all obeyed the gospel.” The question Paul comes to, reveals the subject matter entirely “who has or will believe us?”

Rom 10:16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.   KJV

Because when the word of GOD is preached; then faith can come. Only then; can those who have not obeyed the gospel. When they hear the word of GOD, they can then obey it. This however, cannot happen until the word of GOD is preached.

Rom 10:14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?     KJV

They of the Old Testament; Israel had the word GOD delivered to them by Moses.

The New Testament: The Jew and Gentile to believe needed one thing;  and that is the word of GOD to be preached to them. This so they could obey GOD'S word.

Where is the Sinners Prayer (part 2)

Where Is The Sinners Prayer

In the last blog. I asked the question, and hopefully answered why Romans 10 does not show what many have termed “the sinners prayer.” The one reason in particular was that Romans 10 doesn’t hold the sinners prayer is because Romans 10 doesn’t speak to the sinner to repent.

Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.        KJV

There is yet another reason that through another close look upon Romans 10 that this is not “the sinners prayer for salvation.”

Many take Romans 10 and the words of “confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in then heart that GOD hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

There be those who couple this scripture with John 3:16 and say ok. Here it is “confess and believe” and one is saved…

John recorded this word in (his gospel.) This quite possibly the most mis appropriated scripture in perhaps all the bible. John didn’t even write his gospel until around 100 A.D. So, the question must be asked. How could the first church have taken John’s gospel in particularly John 3:16 to be the salvation message?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.     KJV

The salvation message that would cause the New Testament Church (the church) to be born. We know came way before John's gospel. We see the word for word preaching in Acts 1 and 2 that immediately followed Jesus' crucifixion. Therefore, the idea of “confession and believing” as defined in our day wasn’t even in place. The reason as stated; because John had yet to record his gospel. So, it would be in error to take something and attribute it to salvation when John 3:16 wasn’t even around.

Neither John 3:16 nor Romans 10 speak of what Jesus said in accordance to the way of salvation.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.     KJV

John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.     KJV

1 Peter 3:21 The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:    KJV

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.     KJV

Acts 10:47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?    KJV

Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.      KJV

Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,     KJV

Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;    KJV

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.     KJV

Acts 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?    KJV

I believe with these and many other scriptures from the word of GOD lets us know that baptism in the name of Jesus Christ is for the remission of sins.

Romans 10: 8,9 doesn’t teach us repentance nor the necessity to being water baptized. So the conclusion is. HOW CAN THIS BE THE SINNERS PRAYER IF THERE IS NO ADDRESS TO THE SINNER TO COME TO REPENTANCE AND WATER BAPTISM IN THE NAME OF JESUS?

So, the plan of salvation for sinners MUST include baptism. Not only does Romans 10:8-10 not mention baptism neither does it even allude to such need for water baptism. Yet, we read of Paul who also wrote previously in Romans 6 with such clarity to those who had already been baptized.

Rom 6:3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

HOW DO WE SHOW HIS DEATH WITHOUT BAPTISM?

4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:     KJV

PAUL HERE IS DECLARING THAT BAPTISM IS NECESSARY TO SHOW CHRIST’S DEATH. BUT ALSO PAUL SAYS, IF, WE HAVE BEEN PLANTED TOGETHER IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS DEATH, WE SHALL BE ALSO IN THE LIKENESS OF HIS RESURRECTION.”

There can only be one way to share in the hope of resurrection with HIM, and that is to be buried with HIM in baptism.

I would also like to point out that Paul preached the very message that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost and to the house of Cornelius in Acts 10 as well to the Philippian jailor in Acts 16. This also Paul preached again in Acts 19:1-6 asking but 2 questions to men that already were “believers” of Jesus. The one that I wish to point out is verse three.

Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.   KJV

There is just no factual basis to what we today see termed as “the sinners prayer.” Why would Paul ask this question. Its certainly not for an outward confession of faith. Paul was asking have you obeyed the word of GOD; having your sins washed away. Have you been buried with Christ in baptism?

The "sinners prayer" we do not see it in scripture as its portrayed today. Paul was adamant by his questioning of those who were the disciples of John the Baptist and "believers" of Jesus. Therefore, we can rule out Romans 10:8-10 being the “sinners prayer.”
