Where Is The Sinner’s Prayer?
I don’t know if you have ever wandered or perhaps questioned where in the bible, chapter and verse the location of the sinners prayer is. I know I have. I have looked and have desired to know and have asked. Just where is the “sinners prayer?” If it did not originate in the bible, then from whom did it come? I mean, is it biblically sound? If Jesus or the apostles did not institute it, then why is it practiced? The answer lies within the word of GOD. We must start with the bible.
Romans 10:8 But what saith it? The word
is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith,
which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto
salvation. KJV
This we know, if this is the sinners prayer that brings
salvation then this is the prayer we need to pray. However, whether it be or
not, we must all seek our salvation with the desire that Noah had… The bible says, he moved with fear and built the ark to the
saving of his house… Heb. 11:7
Whatever the means necessary that reveals us showing our faith
towards GOD. Whatever is going to manifest the faith needed to bring us to salvation. I say, the response that
pleases GOD is the one that matters.
As we look at Romans 10:8,9 we need to see if it lines up
with what the bible says of securing our salvation…
John the Baptist came along with a message that doesn’t
coincide with the context of Romans 10:8,9…
John’s message was repentance.
Matt. 3:2 - And saying, Repent ye: for
the kingdom of heaven is at hand. KJV
Verse 3 says that this was to prepare your way for the Lord to make HIS
paths straight.
The question to be asked is, does Romans 10:8,9 speak of repentance?
Jesus Himself comes along and He says of His mission, HIS calling and
purpose.
Matt. 9:13 - But go ye and
learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not
come to call the righteous, but sinners
to repentance.
Mark 1:15 - And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Luke 13:3 - I tell you, Nay:
but, except ye repent, ye shall all
likewise perish.
Luke 15:7 - I say unto you,
that likewise joy shall be in heaven
over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just
persons, which need no repentance.
Is this a part of Romans 10:8,9? Confess with your mouth. Believe in
your heart. Is this language seen in the command to repent? Is “confession”
speaking of the same thing with the command to “repent?” Does “confession”
agree with “repentance” of sin?
Jesus in one of HIS last commands to the disciples that Luke records to
do.
Luke 24:47 - And that repentance and remission of sins
should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
We must ask ourselves. If Romans 10 is the salvation message for
sinners, why does it not agree with the gospels that record for us the words of
Jesus; REPENT OF PERISH? Do we within the context of Romans, see heaven
rejoicing? Do we see Paul
speaking the same thing from the context of Romans 10 and it introducing us to
the Kingdom of GOD? Or Paul proclaiming to the Romans to repent for the kingdom of God is at hand? Nowhere do we
see this in Paul’s writing in Romans…
Romans 10:9,10--- Does Paul in his writing here speak of (repentance?)
Paul makes no mention of repentance in his letter to the Roman church as
all. I believe with everything we have read in the gospels. If what Paul wrote
in Romans was the plan of salvation for sinners; repentance would have to be
included in his text.
I believe it must be noted that if repentance is not present here. We
must recognize that Paul is dealing with a different subject matter altogether.
This is part 1 as I endeavor to
cover this a little more
